The Rhino Instruments RM1 is a revolution in remote temperature monitoring
Critical temperature data sent to the cloud – rain, hail or shine, and even in the dark.
Electronics don’t have to be delicate. We know it’s rough out there so we’ve built an absurdly robust all-metal encased device that’s 4G-connected, solar-powered and has achieved an IP67 waterproof rating.
There’s only one button. Press it and walk away. Each device has its own 4G modem and SIM card. This means no internet gateways, no fiddling with wifi passwords, no syncing devices or maintaining line-of-sight, and no getting corporate IT involved.
Data in the cloud is fun but not when you’re walking the site. No need to fiddle with your phone just to see the temperature reading from the device in front of you.
Electronics don’t have to be disposable. Repairability is core to our design ethos and we support your right to repair your device. We’ve made it easy for you – From user replaceable batteries to gaskets instead of glue, and right down to small details like a standard automotive fuse so you can grab a new one from the servo if needed.
Geelong has a long history as a place for manufacturing and innovation. The refrigerator, the ute and the Hills Hoist are all Geelong inventions. We are proud to be part of the story both designing and manufacturing on Wadawurrung Country in Geelong, Australia.
“We have worked with Rhino Instruments since 2018 from prototype to finished product. Their devices help us safely process over 30,000 tonnes of organic material into compost annually. Our requirement was a device that’s bulletproof and no training required to use them. That’s what they have delivered.” – Andrew Lucas, City of Greater Geelong Garden Organics Processing Facility
Our remote monitoring and control system has a few other tricks up its sleeve. If you’re interested in finding out more about other applications such as multichannel temperature monitoring or integration with other sensors please get in touch using the contact form.
We would like to thank Cleantech Innovations Geelong for their support of our project. Without their funding we could not have taken our prototypes through to a finished product.
Cleantech Innovations is a business and industry support program to develop markets for clean technologies (cleantech). Their vision is to establish Geelong as a Centre of Excellence for cleantech in Australia, by attracting investment, creating jobs and building skills. The program has been operating since 2014, delivering positive economic growth and sustainability outcomes for Greater Geelong. The program is in line with Geelong’s designation as a UNESCO City of Design and the community-led 30 year vision for a clever and creative future.
Our funding was delivered through the City of Greater Geelong in partnership with the Victorian State Government and the Geelong Manufacturing Council.
We also appreciate the mentoring support we’ve received from the following people and organisations:
The Mechatronics Department at Deakin University Waurn Ponds
Regional Innovation for a Circular Economy (RICE)
